The division is comprised of uniformed officers with a wide range of responsibilities. They are the initial response to any call of service received by our dispatch center. The division is divided into two shifts (Day and Night) with a total of 4 squads. Officers assigned to the division work 11.5 hr. shifts on a non-rotating basis. Each squad is assigned officers with different certifications such as EMT, Motorcycle, K-9, bike patrol, SWAT, and Field Training. Each officer is assigned to a geographical area of the Township as a part of the department’s initiative for community policing. This goes hand in hand with the Neighborhood Watch Program. Each officer is assigned Neighborhood Watch Block Captains in their patrol district in which information is communicated between them on a regular basis. Also, if there is a particular concern about an area within the Township the concern will be forwarded to the officer assigned to that district so that the concern can be addressed accordingly.
Each squad is supervised by a sergeant and the shift is commanded by a lieutenant.
Officers have the latest technology at their disposal. A live scan fingerprint system was recently obtained and has been great addition for our police department. The live scan fingerprint system has a direct link to the NJ State Police and has helped us identify criminals who provided false names and information. Our patrol fleet has a multitude of specialty equipment that includes mobile video systems, laptop computers with CDMA modems, Lo-Jack, defibrillators, and an Automatic License Plate Reader.
