The accident happened around 9:15 a.m. in Ulica put Sajkaski detachment during the regular training of COPO trainees in Sremska Kamenica while the trainees were shooting at a target.

Future members of the MUP of Serbia learned how to shoot a pistol yesterday. Veljko P. and the other guys were in line and they were supposed to practice shooting at set targets - says a source from the investigation and adds:

Veljko P. had a CZ 99 pistol in his hands. He fired the pistol, but the bullet got stuck in the barrel. He tried to solve the problem himself, but he made a fatal mistake.

According to sources familiar with this accident, the young man turned the gun with a bullet stuck in the barrel towards him.

Allegedly, he then shook the gun several times and tried to dislodge it. However, at that moment when the gun was in the area of his chest, he fired. So the young man shot himself in the chest, practically in the heart from close range - says the Kurir source.

Our interlocutor also says that at that moment there was general panic at the shooting range.

Veljko P. grabbed his chest, and blood started gushing from the wound. He collapsed in the middle of the shooting range and remained lying down. His colleagues and superiors quickly came to their senses and reacted immediately. They called the ambulance and they themselves tried to give him first aid. They immediately reported the case to their colleagues, who quickly came to the scene - recounts our interlocutor:
- Upon arrival at the City shooting range, the emergency team tried to resuscitate Veljko P., but despite all the efforts of the doctors, they could only state that he was dead. Veljko P's colleagues hoped until the last moment that he would survive, but when they were informed that he had passed away, they could not hold back their tears.

Colleagues of the deceased left the shooting range without saying a word and with their heads down and were transported by bus to the training center in Sremska Kamenica - says the source.

On the occasion of the unfortunate event, the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a statement yesterday.

A 21-year-old participant of the Center for Basic Police Training from the Belgrade area tragically lost his life during shooting training in Novi Sad. Colleagues and the emergency team immediately tried to resuscitate him, but unfortunately the young trainee succumbed to his injuries. The investigation was announced on the spot by members of the Novi Sad Police Department and the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office - the announcement states.

He dreamed of becoming a policeman. He wanted to help the citizens of Serbia.

At the scene of the tragedy yesterday, numerous members of the Serbian Interior Ministry, as well as dozens of police cars, forensics, and two paramedics were present.

The injured young man dreamed of becoming a policeman and serving and helping the citizens of Serbia together with his colleagues. His untimely death stopped him from that intention - says our interlocutor.
